The Minburn United Methodist Church has been a long standing foundation to the Central Iowa Small Town With a Big Heart. The current building is the third building to be home to the church. Following the destruction of a wood structure by fire in 1943, the current brick church was designed and built in a six year period and was dedicated in 1949.
The church is currently part of a three-point charge with the Dexter and Redfield United Methodist Churches and is served by Pastor Jill Leveck. Originally from Des Moines, Jill graduated from drake with degrees in English literature and Spanish. She then studied at the University of Madrid for a quarter in order to hone her Spanish speaking skills. After working for a few years she attended Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois where she met and married Kevin (who has also served in many pastoral settings). They have two daughters, Jennifer and Anne, who live in the Des Moines area. Jill has served the ministry for 34-years. Ordained as a United Methodist, she has served a Quaker church, several Union churches (United Methodist and Christian Disciples of Christ) and a Community Church as well as United Methodist parishes. She is a quilter, sews school bags for the In-gathering and enjoys storytelling, having told stories at Living History Farms and for a number of summer reading library programs. |
